Hiking, Rowing and crazy golf

An early start was neccessary to organise my outward bounds activities so I headed out at 7:30 to the centre of town. Once I saw what was on offer and how long it would take I realised that after the long day I had already had, this would wipe me out. I therefore opted to postpone until the following day and took a 6km stroll around the lake. Bled lake is impossibly beautiful, the emarald water is punctuated by a small islet and church at the south side and is overlooked by a fairytale castle upon a cliff. After a couple of hours I returned to the hostel and hooked up with Tom and Liz who were heading up to Vintgar gorge for a short hike. The gorge was nice if not a little underwhelming and so after the walk we returned to Bled for lunch and a few goes on a 1 man bobsled/rollercoaster ride that was perched on the hillside.

Having survived the hillside ride (it was actually quite intense) Tom offered to show off his rowing skills and we hired a boat for an hour and went to see the church. Landing the boat among the many others was a little tricky and Tom decided to stay aboard whilst Liz and I went to investigate what was at the top of the 5 million steps and the side of the island. The answer I'm sad to say was a €3 entrance fee to a small church and the right to ring the 'Luck Bell' as many times as one wished, a privilige that many a fee paying tourist seemed happy to indulge, with gusto! After the short row back (and a quick lesson in Coxmanship) we bought ice creams and played crazy golf in the centre of town. The evening was somewhat less exciting culminating in the purchase of pizza and wine before heading off to bed to catch some zed's for the bus ride to the capital city Ljubljana.
