Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik backpackers hostel is awesome! I was picked up by Ibiza (Ibbitzer) and after a quick U-turn to collect a Chinese-American girl called Helen from the same bus, arrived at his family home that had been converted into a very cosy hostel. Ibiza handed the very same cans of beer he had stopped for along the way whilst his Father prepared some delicious goats cheese from his brother's farm. With some fresh bread and a wee dram of plum brandy we suddenly felt like we had been welcomed into the family and the urge to head off to the old town was somewhat muted whilst we kicked back and relaxed as best as we could given the state of my neck. I should have mentioned this earlier but 3 nights in Split on a bad mattress had left me barely able to move and despite the local grog I was in quite a lot of pain. Despite this, Helen and I did manage to head down to the old town for a while and then had a Lasagne by the beach accompanied by enough wine to ease my neck into the idea of trying to sleep. Fortunately, the bed was a firm sponge mattress and the next day I was feeling well enough to wander around the amazing Stari Grad before the heavens opened and turned the marble paved city into a huge ice rink. Much as I like the hostel I was keen to move on to Mostar and Helen was feeling the same so we teamed up with an Aussie guy called Clinton and got the early bus to Bosnia
