The view from the window when I awoke was absolutely amazing, it was only when I checked my GPS hadn't run out of power in the night that I first realised why. As I had headed further and further north, the GPS unit kept revising it's sunrise and sunset times for the current location and now we had crossed into the Arctic circle, both fields went blank and there is no sunset for weeks and weeks! The terrain was mountainous with roaring crystal clear rivers in the valleys below. at 09:10 that morning we arrived in the town of Bodø where we were to stay for absolutely minutes.
The Hurtigruten (The coastal steamer that stops at most places on it's 11 day journey from the South to the North) departede at 10:30 to Moskenes on the island of Lofoten. After a chilly 3 and half hours we arrived at the seemingly impenetrable cliffs that rise from the sea known as the Lofoten wall, a short bus trip later and we were in the charming fishing village of Å (Pronounced Oh!). Å is a beautiful village famous for producing stockfish and you can see racks and racks of paired up cod hanging out to 'dry' in the pouring rain!
Rest was on the agenda and so after checking into 'the house from Psycho' we went for a short walk in the rain before returning to our dorm and falling asleep. Later that evening we imbibed at a local buffet including among other delicacies, fried cod tongue!
